Trends in product information management

In 2024, product information management will develop by leaps and bounds, as technological innovations and market requirements guide the development of the industry. Product information is no longer seen as mere data but as capital, and the strategic importance of product information management is emphasized. Below are the key trends in product information management identified by Adeona for 2024.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning bring new opportunities to product information management.

With the help of machine learning, PIM systems can learn to identify, analyze and process complex data structures and increasing amounts of data, thus reducing manual work and human errors and increasing the efficiency of product information management.

Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, is increasingly used in PIM systems for product information enrichment processes. Product information is produced with the help of artificial intelligence, which significantly improves the product experience for the end customer, but which typically takes time and resources in product information management.

Adeona is developing AI functionality for Adeona PIM, which could be used, for example, to translate product information, define keywords or create attractive product descriptions. This functionality is coming to customers during 2024!

Multi-channel PIM

During 2024 at the latest, the multi-channel publication of product information will become commonplace. All product information is managed in one centralized PIM system, from where it is published to numerous different publishing channels, for example online stores, mobile applications, external marketplaces, industry-specific product information systems...

A centralized product information management system ensures the correctness and consistency of product information at all customer meeting points. On the other hand, it enables targeting and customizing the same product information on a channel-by-channel basis.

Our customer Etra publishes product information from Adeona PIM to numerous channels, such as three online stores, a mobile application, store materials and various material banks.

User experience and personalization of PIM systems

In 2024, the development of product information management is not only related to external users of product information and customer experience, but also to the user experience of PIM systems themselves.

Companies strive to ensure that everyone in their organization can make effective use of product information. Simplicity and ease of use of user interfaces are key here. Intuitive, user-personalized, and visual user interfaces can improve user experience and efficiency.

"It's great that Adeona's ease of use is at such a level that a new user doesn't need to read User's Guides!" Noora Laahanen, KoneBoss

Adeona PIM has been praised for being easy to use and intuitive, and this of course has been achieved through careful planning and sensitive listening to customer experiences. In 2024, we will take a step forward in this as well, when we will add user-customizable dashboards to Adeona PIM!

PIM as a master system for product information

In 2024, we will see numerous companies that are at least considering turning their product process around so that the master system for product information is a PIM system instead of an ERP. An increasing number of PIM system implementations are also taking place in such a way that the PIM system is brought to the center of the product process.

This enables the maintenance of extensive product registers, the more effective utilization of supplier information, and the enrichment and utilization of products before the decision to take them up for sale. The maintenance of product information and product processes become more agile and, for example, the opening of products for sale can be significantly accelerated.

From product information management to product experience management

Although this has been discussed for several years, in 2024 Product Experience Management (PXM) will rise alongside Product Information Management (PIM).

Product information management traditionally focuses on centralizing, storing and sharing product information in an efficient way, while in product experience management, the focus shifts from handling product information towards a more holistic customer experience: monitoring and measuring the richness and quality of product information and actively striving to offer customers unique shopping experiences.

This is also where the PIM system can do its part. Read more about our CEO Patrik's blog on product experience management.

Emphasis on sustainability and environmental information

Companies have to pay more and more attention to the responsibility and environmental impact of their products. In product information management, it manifests itself as the need to report the impacts of products throughout their life cycle, i.e. to maintain various product information related to sustainability and environmental effects.

Even now, our customers at Adeona PIM maintain, for example, various environmental certificates, carbon footprint calculation and material and recycling information.

Collecting and reporting sustainability information serves sustainability-conscious consumers, but it also helps companies achieve their sustainability-related goals and various regulatory obligations. Read how, for example EU digital product passport and The new construction law affect companies' product information.

At Adeona, we continuously monitor product information management trends and even quieter signals, in order to be able to serve our customers. If any of the above trends sparked your thoughts, please contact Adeona's experts!
