Martela

Martela participated in the development of the new Adeona Media Bank. The goal was to create an image bank that would be as user-friendly as possible and easy to maintain. The end result was a perfect match for the distribution of the materials.

Adeona Media Bank's product development needed a customer perspective. Martela needed an image bank that is user-friendly and meets the company's functionality and visual requirements. Needs and visions met and a tool that pleased everyone was born: Adeona Media Bank, for which Martela uses the term image bank.

Finnish family business Martela designs and implements user-centered work and learning environments with different spaces that support individual ways of working and learning. Visuality is an important element in Martela's industry, both for own personnel and for stakeholders, and a modern image bank that meets the needs of both internal and external users of the company was needed to utilize images in accordance with the Martela brand.

Martela has been an Adeona PIM customer for a long time, and over the years Adeona and Martela have worked together on many change projects. In connection with the introduction of the new generation Adeona PIM in spring 2022, the PIM also became an intranet for product information at Martela.

"At this point, we also thought about an external image bank, but that would not have solved the problem: the data would still have to be updated twice. That's why we were delighted when Adeona came up with a proposal to participate in a pilot group where a separate media bank user interface would be developed in PIM and we would be able to influence its functionality, appearance and how it could be customized by the company. The proposal was very welcome to us and we immediately caught on to it", says Marketing Coordinator Katri Nenonen, who works as a PIM administrator at Martela.

Media Bank was developed with usability in mind

Martela conducted a survey both internally and also for selected customers, on the basis of which the most important image bank functionalities were identified. The goal was to create a Martela-looking image bank that would be as user-friendly and easy to maintain as possible.

"We wanted Martela's branded and up-to-date images to always be easily accessible to all user groups. It is important that the solution is user-friendly both functionally and visually", continues Nenonen.

Smooth cooperation in the development project

Martela has undergone many changes in recent years: the website was renewed in spring 2020, the current Adeona PIM was taken into use a couple of years later, and the online store was opened last December.

"Cooperation with Adeona has always been very uncomplicated, things have been done in a good spirit of working together and this project was no exception.", says Nenonen happily.

"The cooperation has been close. Product development patiently listened to our wishes and requests for changes. Martela's wishes regarding visuality and other needs were fulfilled as well as possible. Adeona's Katri and Virpi brilliantly held the threads of the project in their hands; they have cooperated with us a lot, so Martela's wishes are familiar".

Using the new image bank in everyday life is agile

All images and other materials in the image bank are now stored in only one system, Adeona PIM, from which they are published not only in the image bank but also in other channels, such as websites and stores, product cards and price lists.

Martela's branded images are now easily accessible to different user groups..

According to Nenonen, the new image bank works really well. The image bank looks fresh, branded and topical images are available to everyone, and there is also a Pinterest sharing option. High-resolution images are downloaded very quickly, updates are fast, files are easy to move and organize, and it's easy to hide and name images.

Martela's own employees can log into the image bank directly with Microsoft credentials, so there is no need to remember separate credentials. This makes the day-to-day life of main users easier, as there are no more separate user ID requests or inquiries about forgotten IDs. Images are actively used by designers, media, retailers and marketing partners. Stakeholders receive a user ID after registration. The loading and visibility of images can be limited according to the user group.

"Another good change has been that 3D objects and material libraries for designers can be easily downloaded from the image bank and not just from the website as before. This is convenient in terms of updating, i.e. nowadays updated packages are only placed in the image bank and it is also easier for the user to download everything from one place", states Nenonen.

"Now we have the image bank already in use, and it is worth the time spent on development. A lot of functionalities are required from the image bank today, and it is very important to us. We are very pleased that Adeona has provided us with a good tool for managing images as a whole; for that, a big thank you to Adeona and everyone involved in the project. All in all, it was a successful project and very necessary for us – let's hope that others get excited about this too!""
